Welcome to Pura Vida Maine Coons Cattery!

About Our Cattery

Pura Vida Maine Coons cattery is a family run, TICA registered cattery located in beautiful Costa Rica.  I am originally from California, and moved here in 2007 to start a family and enjoy living closer to nature.

Pura Vida Maine Coons cattery is committed to health, beauty, and highly socialized kittens.  We fully test our breeding cats to be clear of genetic disorders, and they come from large Russian lines with a brutally wild look.

All of our cats live with us in our home as beloved pets, and their kittens are handled from the moment of birth and throughout their life.   This early and constant socialization ensures that you will receive an outgoing, affectionate kitten that is perfectly acclimated to household life, children, other cats, and even dogs.

Our cats enjoy our multilevel home, open air decks, a large outdoor garden enclosure, and a “cat heaven” room filled with toys, lounge areas, and climbing structures.

Pura Vida Maine Coons only breeds lines that are genetically tested clear of HCM, SMA and Pk-def.  They receive yearly ekg/echos on their hearts to ensure that they are as clear as possible from having HCM, have had PCR tests, and their hips are x-rayed to be sure they are clear of dysplasia. We voluntarily comply with the TICA Responsible Breeder program.

We have a “closed” cattery, meaning we follow strict guidelines about keeping our household quarantined from exposure to other animals that could potentially expose them to parasites, viruses, or other harm.

When you receive a Pura Vida Maine Coon kitten, he or she will have received a full veterinary examination, vaccinations, been dewormed, and of course be absolutely clean of fleas, ear mites, and ticks.  You can expect them to be litter box trained, of good weight, and have a wonderful Maine Coon temperament.

Our waiting list ensures order and fairness among our approved families waiting for their new kitten.

If you are serious about finding your perfect Maine Coon kitten, and committed to the responsibility of this new family member for the rest of its’ life, please reach out to us first at Pura Vida Maine Coons.  Tell us about yourself, about the kitten’s planned living conditions, your experience with cats, and about what you are looking for in your perfect kitten.

It is important to us to keep this cattery personal, and to work closely with our kitten’s new family to create a wonderful experience for everyone.

Depending on how many litters and kittens we have, wait time can be 0- 6 months.

Feel free to check our Facebook and Instagram pages for more updates on current available kittens.  Please be aware when inquiring on any kitten posted as “Available,” that we are oftentimes replying to other inquiries on the same kitten.

A $500 deposit secures your place on our waiting list.  This deposit is non refundable, and is applied towards your kitten’s total cost.

Selection of a kitten goes in order of received deposit.

Once the kitten is selected,  50% payment of the total cost, and a completed sales agreement secures your choice.  To be fair to all of our clients,  we do not hold kittens without this deposit.

The remaining 50% of the cost is due the week before pick up/delivery.

If you decide to pass, and wait for a kitten from the next litter, you may do so and keep your place in the order of the waiting list.

If no kitten is born of the color and sex of your choice within one year, your waiting list deposit will be refunded or you can continue to to be on the waiting list and retain your position.

When you are sure about the kitten you have selected, it is important to reach out to us as quickly as possible in order to reserve your specific kitten.  We will send you the sales contract agreement, and then your deposit is needed to complete your reservation of your kitten.

Delivery of Your Kitten

There are several ways for you to safely receive your new kitten(s).

Below is a description of each, so that you can choose which method suits you the best.

#1

You can pick up your kittens at Juan Santa Maria Airport in Costa Rica.

This is a safe, and beautiful airport, and tickets are often very affordable April- November.  Reach out to me for hotel or sight seeing suggestions, and to coordinate the date that works best for you.  I will have your kitten ready and waiting, with all necessary customs travel documents, health certificate, and vet certified paperwork so that going through customs is smooth and stress free.

We are blessed to work with a spectacular and professional pet transportation team called Pets to Home.

They are always up to date with the airline’s latest laws and regulations, as well as the safest and most affordable routes to get your kitten to the airport of your choice.

If you decide to work with them, you can choose one of two different methods for the delivery of your kitten.

  • They offer courier delivery, where your kitten is cared for in an airline approved, soft carrier bag, and always accompanied by the courier in cabin and throughout the flight.  Pickup is available at your nearest airport, and the kitten will arrive with all of the proper customs documents, veterinary paperwork, and health certificate.  Prices depend on your location, and fluctuate depending on current airline fees.
  • They also offer cargo delivery services, where your kitten is safely traveling in an airline approved crate under the plane.  This area under the plane is temperature, pressure,  and oxygen controlled so that all pets arrive safely, and as stress-free as possible.  Spacious crates are lined with absorbent pads, and food and water is available as well. Kittens arrive at the airport of your choice,  where you then pick them up.  Prices depend on your desired airport of delivery, and are subject to change due to the airlines, but typically this costs about $677.  This price includes the crate, all customs documents, veterinary travel paperwork, and health certificate.

Oftentimes, I can help coordinate with friends who are traveling, and able to transport the kitten comfortably in cabin in exchange for their flight costs.

This can often be a great and inexpensive option where everyone wins.
